That would be pointless. There were plenty of dead fish to go around below the dams long before the bowfishing crowd moved in to shoot the invasive carp. It wouldn't be much different if it were stopped.. except there would be a lot more asian carp around to reproduce.

well from whati was told if they want to keep shooting them they better start cleaning up after their self or the chance of it beeing stopped is a very high on the plains of KDFW rite now.an if they keep on like they have been i hope they do stop it.:D

Yup.

All of that trash and old line... those darn fishermen need to clean up after themselves. Maybe they'll stop fishing altogether below the dams. Wouldn't bother me any. ;)

I'm sorry, but I just cannot help but ask if you have ever tried using the spell check function. I am not trying to be mean at all, but I am really having a hard time understanding exactly what you are trying to say.

Please try to understand the merits of bowfishing before you start condemning the sport. Research both the Bighead and Silver carp on google. I think putting up with the smell every now and then is much better than the alternative damage resulting from those fish. If you like catching fish other than carp below the dams, you should open up to bowfishing a little bit.

You know I dont really mind it but the big thing is they throw the dang things up on the bank with no respect to the rest of the public.I wish an hope that they will gane enuff to despose of the things in a proper way other than saying oh lets put it up here on the bank maybe the water will come up an wash them out.An if they get to bad im sure the kdfw is looking for a way to take care of it.An what im tryen to say is that the guys bowfishing need to take what they shoot somewhere other than the bank an the boatramps an the kdfw is talking about stoping it below the dams.:DAn im sure i miss spelled a word or 2 for you

"If a bighead carp is caught in Indiana, it must be killed immediately and not returned to the water."

THIS MAY BE WHY YOU SEE DEAD FISH SHOT BY BOWFISHERMEN ON THE BANK. They are law abiding fishermen just like everyone else.

The quote is from the Indiana DNR Website. This link Aquatic Invasive Species can provide some very useful info about Asian Carp. Bowfishing should be encouraged rather than restricted. The fact that the KDFWR would even consider placing restrictions on fishing below dams is crazy.

This is KY, not Indiana.....

Bowfishing isn’t going to put a dent in the population of those 2 fish, they reproduce way too fast. I think some kind of commercial harvest to eradicate or lower the numbers and introduction or larger fish such as the alligator gar will help keep these fish in check, in time or maybe no matter what we do we won’t have any control whatsoever. If bowfishermen decide not to take what they shoot, they should at least be courteous enough not leave there catch where others tend to be. The stench of fish can last days, even just one fish, can’t imagine what a party of bow fishermen would leave behind would smell like. All these dead fish could possibly lead to some kind of disease that can be transferred to other animals, etc. I know it seems like the easy way to do it but they should be taken home and tossed away, thrown in a fire, in their own woods, etc.

Wouldn't it be nice if the fishermen self policed and spoke out about their unsightly trash left behind with as much concern as they do over people doing something different than themselves leaving dead fish laying around?

Next time I'm below the dams, I'm going to take a picture of the dead fish that can be legitimately blamed on bowfishing and a picture of the trash left behind by the fishermen (that will never degrade back into nature). We will see how the two compare for abundance.

There are tons of dead fish on the bank that are no consequence of bowfishing, folks. The churning water below the dams is not the friendliest place for a fish to spend it's days, especially rough fish. It's always stunk of dead fish below the dams and it always will.

For that matter, there are tons of bass, crappie and catfish carcasses left at the ramps by fishermen, too.

I am a bowfisherman as well as a fisherman. I put my own trash in my pocket or on a stringer and haul it out. The young men I saw at the dam can do the same thing much better than I can with my age and physical problems. They should be courtious to others just as they expect others to be courtious to them.

What example are they showing to the non hunting and fishing public who come to sight see at the dams?

You take it , pack it out. You bring it in you pack it back out. Don't leave your trash to affect others or wildlife using the area.

Taking gar out of the river system does not do a lot to change it's balance. Only the Gator gar needs a specific type of spawning area as far as I know.

A good many of you were probably still wearing diapers when I began enjoying Ky's woods and waters myself. Still more were not even a gleam in pappy's eyes. We were taught to take care of the land while working it because we had to leave it for the future. It's the same with our hunting and fishing privelages. Take care of it or you won't have it for the future.Jimmie

The Ohio River borders the 2 states, a lot of Ky. residents use the Indi. ramps & doing so it is a good idea to know their laws regarding the river & feeder creeks to it.
A little tip, if you see a dead fish below the dam & don't like the smell of dead fish don't prod the fish looking for a small hole.
