I was lucky enough to be drawn for the golden ticket! Kentucky archery Bull.. Now im an avid whitetail hunter and have shot numerous deer with a bow but i couldnt tell you the first thing about setting up for elk! Right now im shooting the Mathews NOCAM 70lbs at a 28 in draw. my arrows are Easton Carbon Injection 330 cut at 28" with Slick trick 125 Grain broadheads.. Does this seem like it will be adequet for elk or do i need to tweek my setup? I would love to hear from some Experienced elk hunters and or Guides on the issue thanks.
Sounds like a good setup . Main thing is a good fix blade broad head. With your choice of a 125 slick trick I think you have that. Slick tricks great heads IMO. I use them myself.
Sounds good to me too. Practice, practice, practice! Kill zone on an elk is 18" or so, and a bit farther back than a whitetail. STAY AWAY FROM THE SHOULDER! Congrats, and good luck!
Sounds like you are on the right track to me. I have killed 4 elk with Easton Full Metal Jacket 340's and 125 gr. Muzzy Phantoms. All 4 were complete pass throughs. Shafts were 29 1/2" shot from Hoyt bows at about 68lbs. Good luck on your hunt and keep us updated.
My son took his bull with a 65lb Mathews MQ-32, carbon fury arrow, and a 3 blade 100 grain Muzzy. I took a cow the year before with the same arrow and broadhead. My cow took two steps and went down. His bull ran about 80yds downhill and went down. Your setup will be more than adequate. Just put the arrow in the boiler room and they will not go far.
Thanks for the info guys. i thought it would be sufficient from what i have read but it never hurts to get advise from some people that have been there and done that! I cant wait...sept cant get here soon enough lol. Im using LMO outfitters and they seem to have a pretty good track record of getting people on bulls so im gona do everything in my power to make sure that if the oportunity presents itself i dont screw it up lol. Ill keep yall updated and hopefully be posting pictures in a few months!!
Congrats on the tag! I used a Slick Trick with my Mathews Chill and filled my cow tag last year, you're good to go IMO.
