I had two doc appointments in Lexington today, got out of the last one and had 1/2hour to stop by a gunshop I visit whenever I can. I had seen the rifle about a month ago, and today they were ready to let it go at a discount. I left with one of the nicest 1873 Trapdoors I have seen in a long while. Matching numbers, rearsenaled and rust blued, and as typcial with a restock, no cartouche stamps on the stock. Bluing is 90%, bore is pristine, nice and mirror bright with sharp shallow lands. It has a thin blade front, and the desirable Buffington rear sights, that are adjustable for windage and elevation out to 1100 yds and then some. Still had the cleaning rod and a wide military sling that I am sure is a repop, but will need some leather lotion to revive it as it has dried out quiete a bit. Will probably get shot in the next day or two. This is the nicest original I have had, all 3 of the other ones were good shooters, and traded 2 of them for a Quigley Sharps, in 45/70.

Guys it shoots great. From a rest at 100yds, with the sights set as low as it goes, shot a 4 shot group intso a little under 3.5 inches. I got the nerve to try some offhand, and shot 4 shots a 4x6" clanger at 100yds, and hit it 3 out of four, the fourth one about a inch and a half under it. This thing is a keeper, here in a week or two, several of us local guys are going to stretch the legs on these old guns, by shooting them out to 500yds. I will take pics and let you know how this one and a 38/55 Win Hi Wall shoots.

Congrats on finding that rifle. I’ll admit that I really don’t know much about those type of rifles but I’m willing to learn :) Beautiful firearm.
