Best advice I’ve seen is send it out west to someone that does cats regularly. I haven’t seen a single cat mount from a taxidermist in Kentucky that I would be happy with

100% agree with the above post. Cats are the toughest for sure to make look “right”. If you’re gonna have him mounted and want him to look really good, send him out West.

$550 is what I paid. I’m happy with it. James Taylor Critters creations did it.

Solid advice. Those are quality mounts. Most folks won't go to the trouble or expense though.......and if thy don't see a difference I guess why would they.

Agree that cats are tough to mount and get to look natural but you don’t have to send one out west to get an awesome looking mount. I’ve been all over the west and saw plenty mounted out there that look like poo. There is good and bad taxidermist in every state. A person just needs to be sure the taxi you take one too does a great job on cats. Just because a taxi does great work on deer and turkey doesn’t mean he can do cats that don’t look like a Haves special. Ask for pics of the cats the taxi had already done.

I've seen Johnson's Taxidermy turn out some nice bobcat mounts. Not sure what they charge though.

$600-$1300 is what i found on the net. There's good and not so good taxidermist everywhere. The thing to do is look at their work either in person or on the net.

Yeah I somewhat agree with ya. Difference is the “cat” guys are doing the same number of Mtn Lions, Bobcats/Lynx as guys close to us are doing shoulder mounts on deer. So of course they’re gonna be better. It only takes one time of seeing a really good cat mount next to what a lot of folks “think” looks good to quantify this. Sorta scary what some of these mounts look like in my humble opinion.

Agree that lots of cats mounted look horrible. Not quality work in my opinion. Most taxi screw up on the eyes. Cats are hard to get the eyes looking natural. If a guy does his homework he can find a taxi in Ky that does a great job. Most guys don’t do there homework and think a guy does good on a deer that his cats will be just as good and that’s not true. Example- Guy I took many deer, elk, antelope, and bear to did great work. But his Bobcats was hit or miss. Some looked good but most did not. I never took a cat to him.

I agree. So many people brag on their cat mounts then show me and they don’t look all that much better than haves. I’d rather not mount a cat than have one that looks terrible

I've only seen one taxi guy in KY that does good work on cats and he is a retired champion taxi guy. To each their own on what makes a good looking cat mount but I've seen less than 5 posted on most hunting forums that I would say I would pay money for. If I'm gonna mount one I'm spending good money to get it right otherwise maybe consider just tanning the hide.
