I am after a large blue cat, ive got the worst luck when it comes to em in the past. Spent most my early years pulling in bullheads. So to me a blue is a REAL catfish.
Got nothing against flats/channels but something about blues...
Anyway post pics and tips or stories on your cat catches below to help give me something to go on!

I target flatheads but end up with alot of stupid ol blues. Always catch mine on live bait in shallow water (because I'm after flatheads). I catch the bigger blues in high water conditions it seems

That would be a trip of a lifetime, but a 10 hour drive is nowhere in my future. Im going to have to settle for the lakes and the ohio...
    Any rig suggestions?

Like said above. Cut bait. My order depending on availability is skipjack, shad, then blue gill. Also a reel with a good clicker is a must for me. I prefer Abu Garcia 6500’s for cats. Circle hooks are also ur friend, but don’t jerk.

Meat stick, you mind if I ask what lake/river you fish for ur flatheads in? I spend a lot of time on lake Cumberland in the summer chasing them and catch good size but not great numbers.

How long do you let a fish run before you touch the pole?

Personally I just wait for a steady pull. If they are steady pulling I will lock my spool and allow them to pull tight then sweep gently while reeling.
