Jones County which is a little more than an hour away. World record bear was killed one county over. There are several in the 600-700 pound range killed each year.
My inlaws are in Duplin. I was on two "community" bear hunts. 550 and 610 lb killed. Then we had to get on top of the dog box so the boys could parade him around. Use my BIL truck scales to weigh them.
