Anyone have any experience with hunting bear? I’m looking to get on some bear during the archery season. I don’t have very many near me here in carter but I think this zone is closed to archery any how. If anyone has a bear problem and would be willing I’d love a shot at one.

Same here, bet you will get no responses though. Its like hog hunting. People down south complain about them, but try to get permission to hunt them, and nothing but crickets……

Most people deer hunt large private tracts for free. There’s already enough local traffic (and elk leases pushing them out) as it is. You cant go advertising it to non locals or it will get ruined. Most out of county bear hunters are going to return to deer hunt when they realize they can. All it takes is getting comfortable with a place after the initial invite.

For private owners situations how many of you complain about coons but dont allow coon hunters to stomp all over your deer woods to clean them out. if leased whats to stop a bear hunter from leasing for a higher price down the road.

Lastly a lot of bear complaints are on situations that are not ideal for bear hunting. Back yard bears, areas where bear occasionally pass through but dont stay, or places that are considered baited and illegal. There really are very few legal places to hunt them.

With that said, bears still suck and people are going to complain. As anti poaching as i am (or have been) there’s part of me that hopes everyone of these invasive species gets gutshot.

I understand bears being a problem, but they are not invasive. Invasive is an introduced species from another land. Bears are native. I understand the landowners perspective, being a landowner. I hate coons as bad as anyone, but will not open my place to coon hunters, coon cuffs are easy enough to run and eradicate those furry tailed rats.

I agree coon cuffs get it done plenty well enough

Bears were eradicated for a reason, Invasive isnt the right word but EKY is populated with people who never had to deal with them till recently and prioritizing their reestablishment at the expense of the local people that live there is BS. KDFWR wants another big game animal to make money off of. They want non-locals to hunt them and locals to keep quiet and in their place. When a child is killed or maimed they should be all be exterminated within short order. Fwiw i live in nky and have been fortunate to (deer elk turkey squirrel) hunt in eky quite a bit over the years. There was a bear roaming within 3 miles of my house. My kids play on my 13 acres and if i see a bear on my property it will die.

So if I understand you correctly...on one hand you want to keep it quiet to preserve the opportunity for yourself and others but on the other hand you want them eradicated?

No im saying local folks ought to have a hell of a lot more say regarding bears than they do. Im not a local. Im also saying bears aren’t welcome on my property period. Young boars take long walks and i don't appreciate the occasional straggler, but can’t imagine being told I’m going to have to live with them (by law enforcement) after several generations of not. I really do think trapping and relocating them to Frankfort, Lexn, BG, and Louisville would be some good fun that all easterners should participate in. You know, to share the resource.

I dont blame you. No game is more important than a childs safety. No argument from me there.
