Beagle Shot while hunting

Maybe they felt it was a last resort. Maybe the cows were spooked and took off. Ever seen 100 frightened cows take off at once? Hell even 1 for that matter. It’s not good. Especially if they are approaching dangerous terrain or a fence. A scared to death cow is going through a fence no matter what. If they were calling off the dog and the dog wasn’t responding and the intensity of the situation was increasing, what do you do? I wasn’t there and have no idea, but blanket statements are useless unless we know more. A cow is worth a lot more than a beagle. I’ve ingrained the idea to my family that if our dogs leave our property or our immediate control….they are likely to be shot. Not a good situation but judging from posts, it doesn’t sound like they just shot the dog without any provocation
I get what you’re saying. But I bet I could buy 2 of any cow or bull in the state for a papered champion beagle. Hell maybe 3. Even those damn useless show cows

My daughters boyfriend and his brother were out hunting this evening. They are telling me that the dogs jumped a rabbit close to the property boundary and that it headed towards the neighbors house. The neighbor was either already on the back porch or came out immediately and killed their dog. Is there any actions can be taken? Or is it just a case of tough shit for them? I honestly don’t know.
Talk to the dnr and ask them

Saw one on Rabbitdogs.net last week for $4500 and wasn’t even AKC registered. Guy was from eastern KY. He sold it but I don’t know if he got the full amount. Some of the field trial winners go for more.

In this case, No. A beagle aint gonna leave a track to chase livestock. It don't happen.
The beagle chasing rabbits and tracking as the rabbit goes. Rabbits will run anywhere and I have had them move so fast that they smack my boots as they went by.
I don't know about other peoples cows but when my dog goes with me to my cattle they will try and chase my dog if he gets close.

You need to go to a cattle sale for registered high dollar breeding stock and you will back off that statement. Those type sales they bring a ton of money.
Of course you’re gonna have people who literally pay bookos of money for what amounts to a expensive ass semen bank that produces offspring that’s gonna be in the same display case in the butcher shop as the strip job bull. That’s on them. If I drop 6,000 on a beagle I at least get hours of fun

That is true to a point. If you are selling feeder calves, a more expensive, genetically superior bull calves will bring more money than your strip job bull.

Back when I was growing up, my dad had a game warden buddy from Knox. Stray dogs/dogs running loose were to be destroyed. Needless to say, back then plenty of hunting dogs got separated from owners while hunting never to be seen again. Two of the best beagles we ever had came from that game warden that otherwise would have been put down. They gave off several litters of great puppies Dad gave to different people and were hunted with all over several counties.

I remember years ago that right after hunting season was over you would see Beagles dropped along the roads.
I guess after season was over and they were done with the dogs they would drop them along a road and just buy new dogs come next hunting season.
