My attempt at fall off the bone baby back ribs. Bought two slabs of Walmart Smithland ribs. Bought some seasoning, rubs and bbq sauce at Walmart and Rural King.

Gonna use killer hogs AP, pork perfect and blues hog TN red for first attempt. Pulled membrane off bone side of ribs and padded both sides dry. Rubbed yellow mustard, AP and pork perfect on meat side. Placed on cooling rack in shallow pan meat side up into oven. Put oven on broiler low which is 400 degrees. This is how it looked after 1 1/2 hours.

Then placed brown sugar, maple syrup and butter on foil and laid slab on top meat side down

Also sliced up some potatoes and onions with that AP seasoning and wrapped in foil. Set oven to convection at 250 degrees and put both slabs and two packages of potatoes and onions in. After two hours of cooking took ribs out and turned meat side up and applied the the TN red bbq sauce. (I have to say @hunt after tasting the TN red with the vinegar taste I wasn’t sure I’d like it.) Placed ribs back in oven, foil opened with potatoes for 15 minutes. Here’s the results.

The ribs were delicious tender and falling off the bone. Potatoes good too. (@hunt the vinegar taste disappeared and all those flavors came together very nicely.) Have to thank @hunt for recipe and @bigbonner for oven cooking tips. Still planning on trying @nock’s recipe and the recipe link @drakeshooter gave me. Got two more slabs of ribs from Kroger in the freezer. Oh and barney I have a Kroger one hour west of me and one hour east of me. When I went to the one east of me I talked to a guy back in meats. Asked him where all the discounted meat was and he said barney had already been there earlier in the day. 🙂

Looks great! I don’t care for fall off the bone ribs personally, I like to see my teeth marks in the meat when I take a bite.

Get some of this first.

The batter:
1 cup self rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 T cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter melted
1/2 cup whole milk (I used half and half)
1 tsp vanilla

Mix dry ingredients, then add the butter and wet ingredients stirring together. The batter should be fairly heavy.

The topping:
3/4 cup dark brown sugar lightly packed
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
1 1/2 cups hot black coffee
Mix the dry ingredients

Spread the batter in a greased 1 quart casserole dish. Then sprinkle the dry topping evenly over the batter. Gently pour the hot black coffee over the top. Then into a preheated 350° oven for 40-45 minutes. The middle should still be a little jiggly when it's done. Let it cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
I doubled the recipe for today's dinner, and it wasn't enough to go around. Guess I'll be using a Dutch oven next time.
My wife said Thank You Barney for the recipe.
She is already making plans on where she is going to make and take one to, Easter dinner
She also wants to know where Barneys diner is, I told her it was too expensive and we could not go there. I told her is was a women ware dresses and men wore ties;) type of place.

I just add a bookmark to my iPhone for the page it’s on and change name to the recipe.

Would take some time, but would be much appreciated to have those links shared again…I find myself going back through the thread frequently.

Anyone get funny looks when you say you like to cook? I think there are plenty out there who still see cooking as “woman’s work” but my response is always the same, “I like to eat, so why wouldn’t I like to cook?”.
