For what it is worth......they also "had" the Pit Boss vertical smoker for $399. After multiple phone calls, chats and emails with their customer service, they were only available in AL and GA. They wouldn't ship to store (even though the ad said ship to store free), but would gladly ship FREIGHT to your home.........at about $350 (over and above the $399). They got an earful from me.

  3. My buddy bought the $600 Traeger pellet smoker from Home Depot and has absolutely been killing it lately with some of the best smoked meats ever. He says the Traeger pellets are weak though and he uses a brand called Bear Mountain.

Thought Traeger was like 50% more expensive than Pit Boss?

Traeger usually is a few hundred more expensive. I think Joe Traeger actually started working for Pit Boss a few years ago so there are similarities. I got two close friends with Pit Boss smokers and they do an awesome job. My friends are pretty skilled too and that makes a difference. As far as pellets, I got a buddy that rarely buys anything from BPS/Cabelas but swears by their pellets. May be worth a look for some of you all with pellet smokers.

Ive always heard of folks pressure cooking them first before frying, but ive never done it. Does it make a real difference?
I fry mine low n slow like chicken and have never had it get tough.

@Nock I got my pitboss at TSC so you might wanna compare that model&price. Mine doesn't have wifi but It has dual meat probes. Another thing I highly recommend is getting one with the lever that slides back n forth that opens up to let your flame cook/sear directly or close it for indirect heat. I'm tickled with mine. I never could get a smoke ring with my electric masterbilt that seemed to produce more smoke than the pitboss...
A buddy of mine thought his auger tore up and they sent a whole new replacement no questions asked... come to find out it wasn't broke, it was user error:D:rolleyes:

Just according how tender u like it really. Personal preference I guess. I’d rather pressure cook mine first tho. If it’s a smaller/younger turtle prolly not much of a problem.

It makes it more tender for sure but it also pulls the flavor out of it. I will try the low and slow next time or maybe the instapot

I could see it pulling the flavor out in the pressure cooker. Wouldnt the instapot do the same though? I have one..but i dont use it for much.
