As the song says "She thinks we're just fishing" After a week of solid rain the sun was finally shining here today. My daughter had been begging to go fishing so I made sure to take her today. Our pond was MUDDY to say the least and I felt bad that she probably wouldn't catch even a bluegill with water like that. I was right in a way, never caught the first bluegill, but we didn't get blanked. The tile pipe for the pond is right by one of our spots we fish and there was still a good flow of water going through it. She's learning how to cast and hook her own worms so I was basically just supervising. She picked out a night crawler and said wow that's a bigun! Hooked it right through the end of the nose just one time. I tried to coach her to run the hook through a couple more times and she said no its ok daddy and casted off the bank near the pipe. Almost immediately her little float went down and resulted in this. She rebaited her hook (the same way) and I helped her get her pole casted back out. She got bored after a minute as little kids do and just wanted to throw night crawlers in the water. She sat her pole down and I watch her throw in a few crawlers over to the pipe, her little floater had drifted closer to the pipe. I noticed it stop and slightly sink but just stay in the same spot. I told her to reel it in and when she started to it took off! Resulting in this! She asked if we could keep it and eat it since it was a catfish and I said sure. She said ok we can go home now and eat it, and that was the end of our trip. When we cleaned the catfish she asked what they ate so we cut open its stomach to see, it was stuffed full of whole night crawlers. She says see daddy I told you the fish were eating them. Gotta love these little blessings of life.
