I knew what it was as soon as I seen it, but it was the first I had ever saw in the wild. Quite elusive in nature.

As soon as it was released, it almost instantly disappeared in the soil. It was like it dived into water. I thought that was amazing!

The head of non game species at KDFW would love to learn of this find. When I met here several years ago she claimed that was unconfirmed in resent time to be in KY even though it is a native species.

I read a little bit about they were extremely rare in KY. After watching it burrow into the dirt as quickly as it did, I would say elusive again.

We used to uncover something that looked like that when I was young where I grew up looking for worms in the leaves. We always called them Ground Snakes but I think they were actually worm snakes. Anyways they are not supposed to be poisonous but some of them would go flipping and turning and acting crazy and would actually bite themselves. They’d either die or play dead. I don’t know what the heck they were but when you’re 10 and looking for fishing worms and uncover one it can still scare the beJesus out of you!
