Put it to you like this. I hunted central base this morning. Didn’t hear a gun shot until after 8. That’s unheard of out there. Ask around

So what has caused it so be so bad now? I remember always hearing ft Knox was the place to be to kill the big ones.

It’s probably a handful of things. But I believe that many areas that used to be open are impact areas with “unexploded” ordinance and are off limits or restricted. That gives the deer huge swaths of land that go untouched. The areas that are open get months of pressure from gun hunters and not just the tree weekends they used to get. While there may be marginally fewer deer (which is a good thing for a healthier herd) I believe they are pressured more now and are pushed to those impact areas where humans don’t intrude. I also think that there are way fewer people hunting does so the actual number of deer killed his way down. Troy Gentry killing that big buck years ago was when I saw the tide turn from majority doe/deer hunters to trophy hunters. Deer numbers are still high I just don’t think there is as much access to them.

55 minutes of legal light, no shots on Knox where I am close to. In the 70s, 80s would have sounded WWIII by now.

Good for him. I’m sure he puts in the time. It takes time and access to do it on a regular basis.

I’m hearing the same silence you are hearing. Not even hearing anything on private ground.

I'm done. Almost 3 hrs. No shots on Knox. One distant private land shot.

It wasn't not hearing shots that got me packing up. Had to leave by 10:00 to load the truck to start a 1800 mile road trip. First 500 behind me now.

Not troy gentry from Montgomery gentry. Local guy who killed a 190” typical on knox in the early 2000s. He killed a 171 last weekend.

I hunted the morning and evening yesterday and Saturday morning. I bow/gun hunt on Knox. I don't have many sits where I don't see at least one deer. This is the first time where I didn't see a single deer. Never heard a shot out of area 72, 74 or 73 yesterday. Doesn't seem to be as many hunters as there used to be.
