What year LBL , had its first turkey season Thanks
I think it was maybe '61. I think I remember hearing that somewhere.
Thanks, i know i started going down there in the early 70's, but couldnt remember when, they first opened
April 27-29 1960 Kentucky Woodlands. Kentucky Woodlands became LBL 1963. I found that on line. I bow hunted Ky Woodlands for deer, but wasn’t aware of a turkey season.
Saw that too. Says the first time in 35 years so I guess there was turkey hunting in Ky in early 1900s.
I think they had almost been hunted to extinction around that time.
In the early days ( late '70s/early '80s) in Kentucky, LBL is were you turkey hunted. Shot my first LBL bird at Sugar Bay 1981, 26 LBL birds taken that spring. LBL birds had wider fans and much more bronz color breast feathers than todays strain. About that time "Uncle George" released a bunch of Missouri birds in LBL , north of Hgwy. 68 and closed season North of Hgwy 68 for 4 seasons and the population exploded. By 1988 LBL Ky spring harvest was 300 birds.
George was THE MAN when it came to turkeys in KY.
