I was recently given an old beeper collar and funding being tight i'm gonna try and use it this year. Only problem is I can't get the thing to work right. It's probably from the eighties and I don't have a picture of it to post on here because i'm at work right now and can't find anything on Google but on the cover it say's Point Alert and has a dog on point on the front that's the only branding on it. There's no sticker on the inside explaining what the diffren't option's are. It will come on and just constantly beep like it's stuck on point mode, there's eight rocker switches under the cover that change the setting's. I have tried switching them back and forth in different combinations to no avail, it still wants to just beep constantly. Anybody here ever had one like this? Oh and this thing is loud, I don't know that I have ever heard one as loud as it. haha

Yeah sounds like a Lovetts. I had one when I still grouse hunted that had the little internal switches. They're good beepers I used mine for 13 years trouble free other than a fresh battery every fall.

I like the Lovett's the best of all the beepers, but mine started tearing up after just 3 or 4 years. It's 10 years old now and I've rewired it a couple of times, and now the waterproof case is leaking, and the battery connections are unreliable. I work on it every couple of weeks during the season, but I can always get it running and hate to spend the bucks on a new one.

It is a lot to ask of delicate electronics to hang around the neck of a hard charging bird dog and not tear up.

Here's the instructions for my Lovett, '04 model:

Dual Mode
Regular: 1 5 6

Grouse: 1 3 4 5 6

Point Only
Regular: 2 5 6
Grouse: 2 3 4 5 6

Hawk ScreamRegular
1 5 7

Switch 8 on for Double Run Beeps

Switch 8 off for Single Run Beeps

"Dual Mode" means it beeps in run as well as on point. "Point Only" of course means it runs silent and begins beeping when the dog is stationary.

Hope this helps.

Trust me's instructions worked almost perfect, very minor difference's. I had to end up rewiring the thing anyway but it work's fine now. The hawk scream sounds a little odd to say the least but I believe it's gonna be ok. Thanks for the help guys.

The hawk scream isn't even close to a hawk. I use the hawk scream on the Lovetts because it is very distinct from the usual beep and easy to hear. I do like the hawk scream on the Sportdog and the newest Tritronics beeper. The older Tritronics sounds as goofy as the Lovetts.

I used the Tri Tronics stand alone beeper last year and the hawk Scream was pretty realistic. This thing sounds almost like a busted speaker (which it may have lol) but there's a long beep before the hawk scream so it won't be hard to discern when my dog is on point.
