In particular Nolin.
Freshwater drum. Not sure what else they may be called locallyWhat's a sheepshead (in Ky)? Thought that was a salt water
Have caught plenty of drum, sheepshead is a new one on me.Freshwater drum. Not sure what else they may be called locally
Just heard it myself recently. They say they’re good eating but I won’t even touch the nasty slimy bastages with my bare hands if I don’t have to. We used to catch them every night night fishing, caught some whoppers.Have caught plenty of drum, sheepshead is a new one on me.
I've caught some whoppers over the years, had one inhale a crankbait one evening and pulled the boat a hundred yards down the bank before I got him netted that was probably 15lbs. Then had another about the same size smash a quarter oz jig walleye fishing. Thought I finally had my double digit 'eye until it broke the surface ☹️Just heard it myself recently. Here’s a Lake Erie Sheepshead (Freshwater Drum). Have you ever heard them drumming? It can get loud night fishing on a still night on the Nolin River for Walleye. We caught some sheepshead in Lake Erie
Can't believe she's holding that slimy thing. Long time ago brought one in the boat, that slime dried on my boat carpet and it took a lot of scrubbing to get it off. No more drum came in the boat after that. Here’s a Lake Erie Sheepshead (Freshwater Drum). Have you ever heard them drumming? As you can see these are big females. I am in Burkesville BTW.Back to the stripes, the little males were starting to show up sporadically 2 weeks ago at Nolin, then we got the big rain and the windstorm. The river came up quick and now they're pulling the lake so hard everyone I've talked to said the fish have moved back down towards the lake. I'd say another week at least, maybe two, before they start showing up in numbers.
The big ones hit every bit as hard as a big old smallie BUT they give up in a few seconds, how I always knew what I had before I saw it. Smalljaws don’t have quit in them.I've caught some whoppers over the years, had one inhale a crankbait one evening and pulled the boat a hundred yards down the bank before I got him netted that was probably 15lbs.
