I haven’t hunted waterfowl very much since my brother in law moved to Louisville so this weekend hasn’t been very successful. I still have three days left of hunt with my buddy and I was curious if any old timers (or anyone with a little experience) has any tips for a novice such as myself and my buddy. We got on some snow geese today but they jumped before we could get on em. We found a little open water on a creek coming into a watershed. But we don’t know if there will be ducks or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Where you hunting? Only way to know if ducks are using that creek is to scout/hunt it.

Hunting in Grayson County. All the ponds and watersheds are still pretty locked up with ice. It’s starting to thaw but likely won’t be until next weekend. Tried busting a ice hole today but once it got ten feet or so off the bank it was about 3-4 inches thick still. Don’t have a boat to take on the main lakes or anything.

Just go!!!! Don't need to be thawed with water on top of ice. Use an extension pole to place & p/u decoys. Be careful.

If you don't have a chainsaw, an ax works pretty good too.

Why is your brother in law keeping you from hunting very much?

    Best tip I got is
Point your gun at the very tip of their beak.
