I just bought a used kayak (pelican boost 100) I priced a new one but hated to cut loose of the cash until I knew I liked the idea of a kayak. I have a larger bass tracker boat but I have a hard time loading and unloading by myself. Just thought this would be easy when I go by myself. Thought I would try beaver and maybe cedar creek. Any begins advice? I bought a nice life jacket from cables.

I have been fishing from kayaks exclusively for 10 years. I have evolved into a Hobie Outback at present and my son has a Pro Angler 14 that I can use. I'm really a minimalist when it comes to equipment, I do have a fish finder and lights for night fishing, but as far as rod holders, I've tried them all, now I just use the molded in ones on the Outback and the ones on my crate. I never had a crate until this year, I bought a Hobie H-Crate and have found that I really like it. So you might want to start with a milk crate of some sort. I have used small tackle bags and kept my lures to a minimum, now I can carry more stuff with crate, it will hold several boxes and my bag. This also the first kayak I've owned that I didn't install an anchor trolly on, I HATE anchoring systems on kayaks, but are necessary for anchoring. That's only a start, lots of good info on kayak forums, a lot of trial and error. Where are you located?, perhaps you're close enough to one of the members to tag along with sometime and get more ideas. I'd be more than willing, I'm in Madisonville.

Best advice I can give is to just get out there and try it and don't be afraid to try different things.

And one thing you'll probably find is that whatever accessory you want either doesn't exist, or is very expensive. So most kayakers end up making what they want themselves. Milk crates and pvc pipe seem to be every kayaker's friend.

I fish an Old Town Predator Mx. I stand in it 90% of the time I am on the water. Huge advantage. I would recommend getting a sit on top to fish out of with the exception of the Jackson Kilroy. If you like it I would spend the money on a high quality kayak. A high-low seat and high quality seat will keep you comfortable all day. Don't get caught up in buying a bunch of accessories at the beginning. Take it out and see what all you need first.

Been at it about 6-7 years myself. I use a Ride 135 . I love it its becoming my favorite way to fish. I am seriously considering selling my 24 foot pontoon and buying a PA14 or the 17. Its so nice to get were others cannot go and not have to worry about fuel ect. My only complaint is getting out a little farther during the day and spending more time fishing instead of paddeling. I think a pedle type boat would be the best fishing machine.

Rod leashes are handy. If it don't float, tie it off.

Anybody know anybody that has one of these? http://vibekayaks.com/

I bought some coolers from a guy that had two that I checked out. I am not a hardcore kayak fisherman and only been around a few of the SOT models so I didn't really know how these stacked up to some of the big boy brands.

As others have said spend some time on the water. Everyone has their own way of going about it so what works for others may not work for you. What I love about my kayak is the fact that I can get out in any water around me, rivers, creeks, ponds, lakes, all no problem. I have had several over the years but I picked up a Slayer with the Propel drive last year and highly recommend to anyone debating a peddle style kayak.

I have been looking at the predator's until I saw that vibe sea ghost. That thing looks sweet. The pedal drives are tempting too. There are too many choices.

They're relatively inexpensive enough to buy two. I own a Slayer Propel 13 and a Ultimate FX 15 Tandem. Both serve different purposes but get me where and how I want to go.
