I find myself in the deep woods where getting a clear shot at 50 yards or more is uncommon, if not impossible. Several years ago, my wife bought me a Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. It was fun, but shooting the full power loads was punishing! I started shooting 45 Colt and ended up leaving it behind because it's really too much gun for 45 Colt.
Last year, I picked up a Glock 40 (10mm), put a red dot on it, and haven't taken the SRH out hunting since. I didn't get out enough last year, but I'm looking forward to taking a deer with it this year.
Am I the only one hunting with a handgun here?

It's been about 10 years ago but for 4 years straight I hunted with a 1911 .45 exclusively. I killed 9 all together in those 4 years. Very satisfying experience.

Have a scoped super red hawk in 480 ruger a scoped s&w 44 mag.
Both pack a punch at 75 yds.
Have you looked at the energy charts for the 10?
Some Alaskan guides carry them to be used at near point blank range, not at any distance.

11.5" super Blackhawk 44 mag topped with 2x Leupold.

Used to have a Thompson contender with several barrels including 30-30.

I occasionally hunt with an Encore, especially if I'm walking a good distance.

I shoot Underwood almost exclusively from my Glock 40 (and 29). With the 6" barrel of the G40, I'm getting better than 700#. With the red dot, I wouldn't stretch it out beyond about 50 yards or so. If I'm hunting a stand or blind where I'm shooting further than that, I'm usually toting something else anyway.

Hunt a little bit with a scoped Super Redhawk 44. Handloads with 225 FTX. Think I've killed 7 deer with that rig. It's cost me deer tho, I HAVE to have a good rest with that gun.
Gonna try one with my 10mm this year

That's true with any handgun in my opinion. I carry a shooting stick when I'm shooting my .308.

It takes what, 80# to kill a deer? I'm not hunting Cape buffalo at a grand. ;)

But since you asked, I'm near 550 at 50yrds and 400+ at 100yrds.

Haven’t carried much but got a TC 30/30 and a Traditions BP 50 cal pistol. I mostly use my ML even during rifle season. Lucky to get a 50 yd shot.

I've been eyeballing those Traditions 50 cal handguns. Tell me more... how's it shoot at up to 40 or 50 yards? Recoil manageable? Scope or irons?

Never shot it far but 80/240 and it shoots great at 40 yds. It’s got some type of scope on it. Haven’t had it out of the case in so long, I’m not sure what. Nothing expensive, I’m sure. I’ve never killed anything with it only target practice. Didn’t notice much recoil. I meant my ML rifle during gun season above. I really should use the pistols more. I mostly use Archery in deep woods and like how easy they are to carry.

I have killed deer with a 1911 in 45 ACP (185 grain Golden Saber +P)...
Switched to a Ruger Blackhawk (convertible) in 45 Colt with Underwood 250 grain XTPs at 1400 ft/s--going to try for a deer with both my Blackhawk and with my Marlin 1894 in 45 Colt...should be fun...

Might take my .44 SRH this time. Open sights. 30 yards bout all I can shoot prolly idk maybe further. It’ll be open sights and no rest I’ll have rifle handy though.
