The intent wasn't "not to kill", the intent was that if you had somebody shot through the leg or gut and then lived, at least they would have a fighting chance at survival if they made it to a field hospital due to it probably making a cleaner wound. You get shot in the leg with a hollowpoint, especially back then, and there would be so much mangled flesh that a deadly infection or bleeding to death would be a much higher probability. Of course with modern 5.56 rounds that use up all its energy so quickly, the end result is about the same or worse, so it's kind of a moot point.

The Geneva convention was rules for soldiers from different countries killing each other. It doesn't apply to trying to squash domestic uprisings and police-like work, which is who is doing all this buying that's being talked about. However, interestingly enough, (I'm pretty sure) most all our military snipers use boattail hollowpoints nowadays. Not sure how they get away with doing so, but they do.

The Hague Convention deals with hollowpoints, not the Geneva Convention. Sierra Matchkings are used in military DMR rounds (5.56x45 Mk 262 Mod O and 7.62 Nato M118LR) because they're "open tip" bullets instead of "hollowpoints. (Open tip bullets are not designed specifically to expand, the tip is open to facilitate aerodynamics.)

I'm still seeing .308 in Louisville stores along with other large caliber rifle. No .223 or handgun ammo at all. Meijer even had 1 box of 7.62x39.

Locally the 308's are gone but 270 and 30-06 has all kinds of choices. 40 caliber is available but 45 is more scarce and mostly just the expensive stuff.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.......

I saw the same thing happen the first time Obummer got elected. People were buying ammo like it was going out of style. ARs were flying off the shelf. And before the year was up they were off loading them at a reduced price.

A previous poster was right....Fear is selling ammo and guns right now. It's that simple.

I agree there is a fear element but I have never seen it this bad.

I hope you're right because I'd love to get a nice AR some time. I can't bring myself to buy them for what they're going for now though! As for Ammo, it's plain to see everyone should have a decent stash at home because any time there's any sign of "change" it's the first thing off the shelves. I'm not a big shooter and have ammo from years ago...that's not to say I'm not adding to the pile though.

Have it stocked up for hard times. I've loaded over 500 rounds of .40 and .45 in the last 2 days.
