Question-what are some quality beginner bows for hunting?

I have a buddy who is wanting to get into bow hunting and is looking at a few bows, probably in the $500 and under range for a RTH package. I’ve pretty much told him that reputable companies like Bear, Hoyt, PSE, etc. are going to have bows in his budget that will do everything he wants, and to see if he can shoot them at a shop. I’d like to send him with a few ideas though.

What experience do you all have?

They don't make a bad compound bow these days. It's all about what he likes, really. Any pro shop or even Cabela's/BPS will have plenty of RTS packages in his budget for him to try out.

The mission is a really good bow in that price range.

I have two loaded mission bows to sell. I'll get the model name tonight. They are in like new condition, only target practice. One camo, one black carbon fiber. My boys went from the Mission Menace to these bows to Mathews Halon.

Mission is nice as mentioned. Plenty of RTH stuff at Cabelas as mentioned. A good bow to “grow with” someone is a Bear Cruzer. I’ve shot one and was impressed. This Blackout Series stuff Cabelas pushes us pretty nice too.

I still shoot a Diamond Outlaw. And I will say, I'm a bigger problem than my bow. As usual.

Thanks for all of the replies! My buddy went with a Bear Cruzer. Sent me this pic earlier: AE58436C-A5FB-459F-AEE4-3D596D81CE56.jpeg

Like I’ve said, I’ve shot one and liked it. Good luck to him.

It's not the bow. ALL bows are good enough to kill a deer. All the way back to my Bear LTD I started on.
My next goal is to kill one with my Bear recurve.

I shoot an older model Bear Cruzer and like it a lot too.
