I have shot/zeroed several Marlins over the years, all good shooters with factory ammo, or handloads. I recently got a CVA Scout in a 444 marlin, with a good recoil pad. It had a Hawk 4x12x40 and it would keep a 3 shot group with all holes touching at 100 yds, using 2 different factory loads that i got with the gun. A buddy shot it and had to have it for hog hunting in Tennesee. He has laid them down with it. Every one of the CVA Scouts I have shot, are tack drivers, hard to beat for the money.

Suddenly have the hankering for one. Anyone got any experience with them? I typically prefer the Marlin to the Winchester. But after seeing a model 94 AE, I kind of like it better. But I’d consider a single shot as well. The main thing I’m after is the caliber. Wife and me got this stupid little thing we do over “444”. No matter what it is, time, phone number, license plate, etc. We always try to spot it and call it out before the other one. So I think it’d be neat to have one.
Yep.. had a marlin lever action several years ago..then I got stupid and got married.... out to 100 yards it would hammer deer... I never have 1 to take a step... they are great on tree rats too.. had 1 that wouldn't shut up... hit it in the ribs and hit the ground in 2 pieces....
I loaded xtp bullets....to me more wicked than a 3006.. would love to have another 1... I had many calibers bit it was my go to gun for deer

Howdy, I have a 444 marlin that my dad gave me when I was a teen. My woman hunts with it now, it kicks less than my Winchester 30.06. She uses Hornady LEVERevolution 265 gr ammo that I found a few years back on sportsman warehouse for 40$ I stocked up then, I think that ammo is going for over 50$ now. She killed her first buck with it 2 years ago, a big bodied spike at around 55-70 yards, fist size exit wound behind the offside shoulder, then my feeder then the tree the feeder is attached to lol, deer didn’t take a step.

I have a 2002 .444p guide gun it shoots and handles better than any lever gun i have. Although with its value and the price of ammo it has not been out in awhile. Gun was 385 bucks new in 2002 through a&w gun shop and they now bring 2500 plus if i would of known that then i would have a safe full of them

Here’s to hoping the wife don’t kill me. Because I just went off a ledge for this one on Gunbroker. Should be here by next week.

Just saw this. I own both a Winchester and Marlin 444 lever but haven't shot the Winchester enough to really have an opinion on it. I have a thing for lever actions for whatever reason and have several. I usually prefer Marlin levers myself but both are fine guns.

I prefer Marlins myself. But this purchase was more about the caliber than the gun. The Winchester being unique compared to other model 94’s just makes it a little more special to me.

Agree with you and KY_FRIED about the Marlin's have a few of them myself, but the 444 Winchester is unique. Damn the more I look at yours the more I drool!! I am afraid to go to Gunbroker and look, I been a member of GB for close to 20yrs and has cost me a lot of money. LOL

The main problem with that caliber is, you really need to reload, and brass isn't easy to find, especially these days.
True friend, part with some hard earned cash is an option, save all the brass I expend from this caliber but I was too naive to learn from my dad about reloading this caliber or any caliber for that matter because I’m a dumbas*, I still have about 9 .444 rounds dad reloaded including a couple shot shells he made for the .444 also multiple other rounds like the 221 fireball that goes to an odd looking bolt action pistol (I “borrowed” and shot at a squirrel one time with it when I was around 11, missed and got my hide tanned good for that) some I do not even have the firearms to use them. I have quite a few dyes and equipment for reloading but not the knowledge or time to do so now. I’m saving dads .444 rounds in case I ever get the chance to hunt a bison. Hornady LEVERevolution ammo for the .444 is murder on deer and anything else on earth I’d imagine, in the right setup.
