Had a farm we hunted and camped on till I was in my 30's, old guy who owned it passed a way, he didn't have any family living, and it sold at auction, been closed to people every since.
I started hunting public land, and have killed more and bigger deer, but it still disheartening to think about, it's been over twenty years now, and still makes me sick at my stomach to think about it.

It sucks, but it's all part of it. We were fortunate enough to buy our family farm (135 acres) back in the 90s. We've tended it and hunted it since before I was born, but this ensured we get to keep it and control it. It's nice knowing I can go there whenever I want and no one can tell me otherwise until the day I decide to do something different with it. I highly doubt that will ever happen though. My son loves going there.

Two farms in Nicholas county that were in my family probably 120 years, uncle sold them a couple years before he passed. When his widowed died i found his old will. He left both fams (270 acres) to me, if he still owned them at the time of his death. As Maxwell Smart would say,
“Missed it by that much” !
My papaw left me his farm here in Floyd co. It was the entire head of a large holler, well over 100 ares, likely 200 honestly..
He didnt leave a will because he was a very old fashioned man that was born in 1904 that farmed all his life and never went to school. All he did was farm, fish and hunt...
Anyway, everyone in the family knew it, he told them.. Nothing was said until he passed then all his sons threw a tantrum and forced sell in spite of letting his grandson have it..If they could not have it, no one would they said..
I spent years helping him when he was old and sickly, out of love and respect. I asked for nothing.. His sons never called or came around unless they wanted to borrow a tool or money..
One even took a .22 H&R pistol that he left me and traded it for a case of bear.. So that should tell you what they were...

Been hunting my uncles old farm for 42 years. He passed several years back so his son owns it now. I’ve taken a lot of great deer there over the years. The last couple of years my cousin wants to hunt the spot I do in gun season. I stepped aside so he could gun hunt it. He brings a buddy and he’s actually hunting my stand more than he did. He also killed the good one I passed last year.

So yesterday he called and said they put up a blind about 60 yards in front of my stand but it shouldn’t hurt my bow hunting. I think his buddy wants to hunt here more than he does but it’s my cousins land and I feel the best thing to do is give it up and let them have it.

I’ve mowed it and put in a lot of work there over the years. He’s not a big hunter so we will see how it goes for him. It’s just sad to not be hunting a place that has so many memories. It’s not a big spot but it’s in a good place. Time moves on….
My dad's 88 acre farm has been my hunting grounds since 1974, dad passed away and the property is going on the auction block

42 years is a long time to hunt a spot. This new generation of kids have no moral fiber to them. Good luck with finding another spot. When I was young hunting wasn’t a money game. Old farmers would allow families to hunt especially if you have kids hunting. Come to think about it now I know why the old man use to take me with him to get permission lol. But anyways it’s all about money now

So how much of it did you end up with?

Nothing, not a dollar..I was not 18 yet.. I did take all his tools and his shotgun and dared any of them to say a word. I came back for the .22 pistol and found out my drunkard uncle traded it for a case of blue ribbon. I washed my hands completely of them after that..
That’s rough, man. Some people have no morals about them family or not they’ll screw you over.

Man that story has been told way too many times. My neighbor once told me he ended up paying for his wife's young brother's funeral because non of the siblings, including the mother, would pay for it.
I could tell several more stories.

Just because they are family doesn't make them good people. God I hope I never have to deal with anything like that. You think I can be an ass on here, you aint seen nuthin'. ;)
