It sucks for sure and hurts. I have lost many spots including my grandpas farm. Lost my Duck spot last year that I had since 1991. Killed many many Ducks and Geese there. They let grandson have the place to hunt on. Felts so bad and hunt I didnt Duck hunt ,much last year. Just have to move on from it. Got 2 places I Deer hunt on. My place and my Buddy place. As far as Ducks I got invite places. But I still have my big Goose hunting pond.

You can't get there from here.
Its why i bought a farm in 1993, 40 acres, grown up, no improvements. I sacrificed alot to buy and pay for it. Now i have a home, barn , shop, pond, and have planted like 900 oak seedlings that are now 30+ feet tall. Like i said, sacrifices were made, but now its all paid for, and an improved wildlife sanctuary, getting better every year, and under my control.
I know everybody cant do it, but im glad i was able to.
I have my happy place, and rarely leave it.
I liked this post because I didn't see a jealous emoji.

That’s part of hunting. It’s happened so many times to me that I don’t even fret about it. It seems to happen faster now that many old timers sell off or pass away. I look at it as, “it was fun while it lasted”. Move on to bigger and better land and never get emotionally attached as it will happen again.

Many people try to prevent this by buying their own land. That comes with a huge amount of other issues that I don’t want to get involved with.

My wife and I talked about buying hunting ground.

The only ones speaking to our hearts is our neighboring property or our family farms. The one owner told us we had first shot if their situation changes. Both our families are aging, no telling where we’ll end up, just trying to have money together. No rich uncle is leaving us spit.

Bad thing about not owning the ground is it's always subject to change. Obviously your situation works both ways---you lost ground but that guy gained a new great place to hunt. Maybe you'll have a friend or family that has a spot where you can be the one to gain access to the ground. It's always amazed me that some people who have hunted ground for years on a handshake or lease feel like it's their land forever. I've purchased ground in the past and had to kick people off as nicely as I could. If someone in the land owner or just purchased the land it's ultimately their call on everything with that land. Again the beauty of owning that deed.
I'd say we have all had similar situations in the past and one of the main reasons that I purchased my own land to always have a place for me and my family to go. Good investment too.

Sorry to hear.

Well I've lost places over the years to, and my grandma's place was sold before she passed away, it was willed to me. She had cancer and wanted to do some things before she couldn't and I told her if she wanted to do those things she should sell it. I couldn't afford it at the time. But I made a pact with myself that I'd own my own dirt eventually. I worked 38.5 years to do it but we own our farm. Yeah it's work, sometimes a lot of it, but it's ours.
We've done a lot here already but still have more we want to do. It's not the best farm but it's ours! Have a few regulars that come hunt it with me that I've hunted with for 35+ years and that's cool.

I am sad for your loss but it sounds like you have the right attitude. We all only have these beautiful things for a little while and it eventually all comes to pass, no use in hanging on. Cherish the memories you have (many/most people aren't even that lucky) and be happy someone else now gets to start on their journey to enjoying that very same neck of the woods that has blessed you so abundantly.

My cousin never told me to leave. He’s a good guy but it’s just too small and more hunters than it can support. I feel it’s his ground and if he wants to hunt it now it’s best to not keep him from it.
Exactly, you get it. A lot do not. Those situations I feel like you have two good options
1. Discuss the situation with everyone and voice your opinion about not enough space and see how it shakes out on who leaves
2. You just make the call to leave to save the headache

I feel like something good will come out of it for you. Good luck this year

Mirror much above. I've lost every property I had to hunt in the past because someone had more money than I, it is what it is. Public it is now for what little I hunt these days, been once this year and got a doe, probably won't even go back, no interest in fighting the crowds.

Been hunting my uncles old farm for 42 years. He passed several years back so his son owns it now. I’ve taken a lot of great deer there over the years. The last couple of years my cousin wants to hunt the spot I do in gun season. I stepped aside so he could gun hunt it. He brings a buddy and he’s actually hunting my stand more than he did. He also killed the good one I passed last year.

So yesterday he called and said they put up a blind about 60 yards in front of my stand but it shouldn’t hurt my bow hunting. I think his buddy wants to hunt here more than he does but it’s my cousins land and I feel the best thing to do is give it up and let them have it.

I’ve mowed it and put in a lot of work there over the years. He’s not a big hunter so we will see how it goes for him. It’s just sad to not be hunting a place that has so many memories. It’s not a big spot but it’s in a good place. Time moves on….
Sad that seems to be happening more and more.
