Been hunting my uncles old farm for 42 years. He passed several years back so his son owns it now. I’ve taken a lot of great deer there over the years. The last couple of years my cousin wants to hunt the spot I do in gun season. I stepped aside so he could gun hunt it. He brings a buddy and he’s actually hunting my stand more than he did. He also killed the good one I passed last year.

So yesterday he called and said they put up a blind about 60 yards in front of my stand but it shouldn’t hurt my bow hunting. I think his buddy wants to hunt here more than he does but it’s my cousins land and I feel the best thing to do is give it up and let them have it.

I’ve mowed it and put in a lot of work there over the years. He’s not a big hunter so we will see how it goes for him. It’s just sad to not be hunting a place that has so many memories. It’s not a big spot but it’s in a good place. Time moves on….

Yea I hate that for you. That’s long time hunting a piece of ground. You got the memories though.
Had a similar thing happen several years back. Been hunting this place since I was 7 years old. Just like my grandad. It was our neighbor but he told me I had the run of it hunt it all I wanted. So I did for years. I’m 41 now. Anyway. I was bout 35 or so when this happened. Neighbor was still alive but old. His grand daughter husband started hunting it. She called me one night before rifle season (got number from my mom I guess) and asked if I was gonna hunt back there. I said yea I plan on it. She said well my husband is to. I said ok (already made my mind up after hearing that). I said well tell him he can hunt my stand and I’ll hunt across the road on the other man I had permission on(still hunt there as of now but I’ll loose it to. He’s 94).
She said well ok. Don’t know if he hunted my stand or not but I didn’t hunt back there any that winter because of that.
So the following spring Turkey season I went back there and got on a bird. Killed him. And I went to check my stand and noticed something different. It wasn’t my stand but on same tree. Either her husband or someone took my stand down and put it in fence row and hung there’s on same tree. That stand can rot there far as I’m concerned. They never even said nothing to me. Dick headish move far as I’m concerned. Don’t know if it’s still there or not. I haven’t been back. I never told the land owner(her grandpa) cause he would have been mad as hell. I know he would. So I just let it go. He’s gone now. RIP.
But I still hunt across the road for now.

Hate to hear that Wildman. It’s easy to say it’s okay, but deep down I’m sure it hurts. And that’s okay too. Lots of memories there I’m sure. Some people walk around with their head in the clouds and either are too clueless that they’re really hurting someone or they just don’t care. I dont know why people can’t just be nice to others. I’m in somewhat of a possible brewing situation myself where me and my brother hunt.

Hate that. I’ve been pushed off so many places in the last ten years I’m just thankful we have public because the way it’s going I won’t have any soon.

I’ve put in the leg work and management on my best spots but at the end of the day, I don’t own it and never will.

Sorry to hear that Wildman. Yes it does suck but I think you are taking the right approach.

He may change his mind once you stop putting in the work and he realizes how much they are relying on your efforts.

Thats so frustrating. I admire your humility and kindness in just surrendering it. I hope you can find another place to hunt.

Dang Wildman, that hurts from over here. Well, you got 42 yrs to hunt it.
A lifetime of hunting and memories.Time for a change and sometimes that is
for the best.
My best place to hunt is going to be ending soon also. The farmer is 85
and not in the best of health,to make things worse his wife past away here
recently.Five of us old guys have hunted it over 20-30 yrs. One of us passed
away a few years ago,my hunting buddy Lee-boy.
We have all been told this year that when the owner dies ,its over as it will be sold.
I think it is one of the best deer spots I have ever hunted.....Dam it....

I know how you feel. I lost a place that I hunted for sixty years and a lot of memories with my dad ,son and grandson. I ask the new owner if I could hunt about a fifteen acres of the six hundred acres right behind my house and he said no.He said I might shoot something he didn't want shot.So move on is all we can do!

Its why i bought a farm in 1993, 40 acres, grown up, no improvements. I sacrificed alot to buy and pay for it. Now i have a home, barn , shop, pond, and have planted like 900 oak seedlings that are now 30+ feet tall. Like i said, sacrifices were made, but now its all paid for, and an improved wildlife sanctuary, getting better every year, and under my control.
I know everybody cant do it, but im glad i was able to.
I have my happy place, and rarely leave it.
