I used to carry in a pocket without a sheath or holster, but after some study, I started using a pocket holster. It is safer and keeps my S&W model 36 in a good angle to get my hand on at all times. Of course, they are a MUST with an auto loader. Just my $.02. As for ammo, there are a lot of newer type rounds these days that bring the .38sp into the 21st century. I use the Hornady Critical Defense in about everything, but there are plenty others as good.. https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/handgun/38-special-110-gr-ftx-critical-defense#!/

I don't think anyone in the former generations of my family ever had/carried anything other than a S&W .38 special. They were confident in the performance of the gun and so am I.

A 38 kills just as dead today, as it did 40 years ago. Hollywood and movies make people think they need fancy semi-automatic. If anybody needs 15 shots, they need to target practice.

Tell that to a Vet or a cop that has been in a fire-fight, it's all fun and games until your getting shot at. There exist a Real reason that Hi-cap Mags exist and it ain't for Hollywood.

I get what your saying. But it simply doesn’t work that way. Especially if you are facing more than one opponent. No one has ever said after a shootout “I had too many rounds”.

There's a point to both sides.
Think about shooting doves them guys with pumps, autos will almost always shoot 3 times and guy with single shot will spend ⅓ shells and limit out just as fast ..... Wait I know it's different someone shooting at you but if you only have one it's in your brain that you have to make it count. So I get what Winchester94 is saying..

Nope. 38 short is rimmed and has less power than 9mm.

My everyday carry is a smith 637 I carry 158 grain soft nosed +p. Would bet my life on the performance of the round, and the accuracy of the revolver. I carry it in an inside the pants holster. And when I feel I need more capacity I have a 638 in my front pocket to back it up.

2 different cylinders? I've got a Blackhawk that came with 2 for all those cartridges.

Yes, along with moon clips for the 9 since it’s rimless. Didn’t realize Ruger ever offered that. I’d say that’s quite a bit more than the Taurus.
