Id mount it. I caught one in the Cumberland River last spring that was 19 inches. Wasn't fat at all though, don't know how much it weighed, but it sure had some big thick tasty fillets!

This is the route I would go. Its a little late now, but if it were me, I would have considered lots of pics for a replica then released to spread her genes. I have done it with several bass over 6 pounds, even 1 over 8 pounds, but it would be hard to lose those tasty filets.

  5. Very nice fish! Yes, I would get it mounted.

Dont know how true it is but would like if some of our taxidermy guys on here could respond.
I was told that a cost less to mount a fish than what a replica cost.Is that true?

Excellent fish. I caught a few that touched the 3lb mark. My longest was 21 inches but paper thin. All these came off ky lake bank fishing around blood river. I do miss that. Skipped many of classes because they were biting good.

too late now, but i would have taken measurements and weight for a replica and turned her loose. we have a few on the wall and they look great.

congrats on a heck of a crappie. several years ago we were watching a Crappiethon USA tourney weighin at Aurora and an old timer pulled in with his jon boat that looked as old as him and asked if he could get a couple of fish weighed. he pulled out two 3 1/2 lb crappie. never seen anything like those before or since. needless to say, he stole the show.

No doubt about it. If I wanted to mount it I'd do it even if it was half that size.
