    My turn ,Gentlemen.

    Above is the Original question.

Both the .22-250 & the .243 are capable ,and likely to be more accurate than any of us need for shootin' song dogs or whistlepigs.
But those four words , ''all around better caliber'' would rest on the .243 . It'll do anything the other will do with the same weight bullet.

And at 400 yards , give or take an inch, either are still outrunnin' sound and the coyote don't hear it coming , nor the report of the shot being fired . And if you hit him , with either one , he can't tell the difference.

I've enjoyed reading all this , this evening .

I shot and handloaded for the .243 for over 25 years , no complaints . Now I shoot .223 ,,,,,,,,,,,,no complaints . No regrets .

I have been asking this same question to myself and while on winchester site using the ballistic calculator, the .243 in 55gr is getting better all around ballistics than the 22-250. Plus has less wind drift from the same grain bullet. This was using the ballistic tip winchesters. I currently shoot 22-250 from an encore. I love the caliber but there is always room for improvement. For those of you who havent discovered that calculator yet, you really need to check it out. Great Tool.

a great marketing tool for winchester ammo, but a lot to be desired as far as a real ballistics program is concerned. Berger has a good one on their site you can download & save.
