I’ve heard snowy cold winters makes better shrooming but maybe a old tale. What portion of spring was it trapper? Reason I’m asking last yr was the first time I ever found yellers in March, mind u it was last few days of March. Normally u don’t see them until mid April.
I just went through my Amazon photos on my phone and the last two years I found my first was April 27th and April 28th. Don’t mean they weren’t here earlier, I just didn’t find them till then. I hope this year is a bumper crop.
Moisture shouldn't be an issue unless it doesn't rain anymore and turns 80 degrees. I heard it pouring a few times last night
All we need it temps to stay mild a few weeks solid and not turn off hot. A couple more mild rains in March and first part of April. If this happens we all will be frying some shrooms
This graph just shows how quickly the ground temps can change and it looks promising for a spike upwards with Sunday’s very warm rains forecasted. I’m not predicting any finds in the next week but it does look like we are going to see a quick improvement in soil temps.
Hoping to find my first KY morels this year. Guess I am not looking in the right spots. Cumberland Cnty
What do soil temps need to be, I just look when I thinks it’s been warm enough for a day or two. Never paid much attention to soil temps
I watch for day time ground temps @ 55-60 for 3 straight days along with nighttime ground temps @ 48-50. A 60 degree rain in that window will get the blacks to pop.
The day after spring turkey season last year I was preparing an apple wood smoked wild turkey and morel pasta. While cutting up the turkey I look out the kitchen window and see this guy walking and strutting around in the back yard.
I’ve joked about the possibility of him looking through my workshop door to look at my calendar! I’m anticipating him showing up during the upcoming season.
