How did the quota hunt go this weekend? Any big ones killed? I'm going this weekend and was wondering how the new system worked.

For me the hunt went fine and the new system wasn't bad. However, I had good cell service to reserve my spot for Sunday.

Didn't see any shooter bucks, but did see several deer. I saw a big deer taken in 39.

Been real nice if the Mt Eden gate would have been open.

I thought the hunt was wonderful. Please be aware of the rules and documentation required for the hunt (harvest log and map of the QUOTA are you are in). As well as the regular paperwork you are to have.

The gates that we are used to being open are closed due to a lack of manpower available to maintain them.

Im taking a chance on 86A, it and 87 have only been open a couple days in Oct. from what I could tell. For future reference,How can you find out what areas are "non lottery"? Good luck to everyone!

Did you hunt 86a on Sunday? The reason I ask is I had two hunters decide to come down off the top and walk in on me on the edge of Cedar Creek.

The boundary, by the map is the edge of Cedar Creek Range. If a hunter wants to put forth the effort they are not out of area to walk off of 86A or 87 on the Cedar Creek side. By the letter of the law on the boundary maps of those areas run almost to the grass on the range. I know the hollow that Cedar Creek hunters hunt called the borrow site and Joes hollow both are technically in 86A and 87. But, when it comes to those shared boundaries you just hope for courtesy.

Totally agree with you, and I didn't say they were in 114 ,just that they were headed that way, and just so we're clear, I was in the creek bed, about 75yds off the food plot, so was definitely in 114. It's the Courtesy you mention, that is exactly what I would have expected, but after flashing my light at both hunters on either side of the creek working towards 114 from 86a, you would have thought they'd stop when they seen me, and work back towards where they came from. Instead what happened was they BOTH shut their head lamps off, and continued to move towards 114 up on the hillsides. This all took place at about 630-640, and I had already been set since 545. Just a little discouraging is all.

I feel your pain on the hunters not having courtesy to walk away when someone has their spot. I had 3 hunters set up with in sight of me Saturday morning. They all three came in after daylight, I had on all my orange on and they just kept on. They were close enough that I took pictures of them from my tree. Many hunters seem to have a tree in mind and they are going there regardless. But, I have been hunting Knox since 04, bow and gun this has only happened to me twice. So by and large most hunters are respectful.

Like the new system a lot better. Seen some small bucks in area 2, no shooters. Sounded like area 1 was hot though!! Shots all day sat and Sunday even with the weather. Also, for some reason tons of atvs this year. Had a young guy drive right up the holler we were hunting and hang a climber. Sorry but no reason for a young guy to need an atv if you are healthy enough to use a climber

I thought the new system went really well. Wish they would let you reserve an area the week before so you could scout. Also move the Harvest Log from the "Guidelines" tab to print off when print your permit.

Sorry, but I would have to respectfully disagree with your statement. This is a Military Installation, and some of these "Young Guys" might have wounds that do not allow them to walk for long distance, or carry things on their backs for long periods, I.E Tree Stand. I have a ATV exempt permit, for my Asthma that I contacted while on the Oil Fields in Kuwait, and needing a Hip Replacement for numerous things I wont go into. So bare in mind what you see may not be what it is.

It would be nice but, many of the areas have training in them or around them until the weekend of the hunt. Therefore, these areas aren't accessible for scouting.

I know that you aren't being negative but, you can't see what is hidden under that camo. While I agree some will and do abuse this many aren't able to walk and carry a stand. Glad you enjoyed your hunt and hope you have a great season.
