Hunted 2 long hollers Saturday, heard a flush from a treelap on the ridgetop, and the dog pointed on a bench, relocated in the swirling breeze, came back where she started, and ran a small looking grouse up. I passed the easy shot, will meet that bird again later. Crossed out into a second holler that was logged in 2007, and it's getting right. None seen, but I'll be back. Today was hot and windy, hit a short holler with cover thicker than hair on a dog's back. Bout an hour hunt, none seen, called it a day. I've been in 7 hollers this year and heard or seen 5 birds, that doing as well as I did the whole season last year. I'm cautiously optimistic.
