I have punched my buck tag on Monday and been doe hunting. I was lucky enough this morning to get a doe but this afternoon I saw a monster. He was huge just my luck. Could see his rack over 250 yards away the last 10 minutes of light tonight. It was dark. Damn he was a good one.
Perfect all day long where I hunt. A few showers this morning, nothing but cloudy this PM, calm all day, perfect deer hunting conditions....didn’t see a single deer all day!
I saw 6 does this evening from 3 until 5, I really expected some kind of horns to show but it didn't happen.
Hunted this evening over a rye, oat plot that has been getting mowed down. At 4:15 a doe entered the field slowly feeding. Five minutes later a shooter skirts the shumake on the edge at 25 yards and shadows her out to around 100 yards before stepping out broadside. I didn't have enough time to identify him as a shooter I have pictures of but there was no doubt he was a stud. After the shot he bolted off behind the does. I waited an hour and took up the track which was very good, lots of bright red blood. We ended up tracking him about 200 yards and the blood started to taper slightly with gaps between the puddles which slowed us tracking as he backtracked a couple of times in a thicker area. I felt uncomfortable with the way things were going so we pulled out until morning. I sure hope I didn't botch a 100 yard shot on this deer but I just have a bad feeling and definitely didn't want to push him out of a bed. Were going back in the morning to search so I guess im in for a sleepless night.
I saw 2 of them big woodpeckers and a beaver. No deer 7hrs in the woods. Heard that neighbor on the other side of the mountain killed a big one yesterday, hope it wasn't the one I've been watching
Yes we looked all morning and found another bed where he laid last night full of blood several hundred yards past where we stopped last night, but no luck after that.
Well i found the does that seemed to have vacated the premises. 4 does and 6 yearlings all herded up eating acorns in my neighbor’s front yard. Might just have to bow hunt his telephone pole.
