I have been running cameras on this farm but like most of my other spots I hadn't had any picks of any shooters. So this morning i decided to go to a stand i hadnt hunted any this year. Right after daylight i seen a deer going around the hillside, but it was still so dark that i lost sight of it as soon as it went through the small opening in the brush. A little while later I see a deer coming back the same trail and I can immidatly tell it a buck so I get my rifle up. As he was walking through the brush I could see he had good tine length and heavy mass so I decided to shoot him. I bleated with my mouth and he stopped but was in a bunch of brush. He started walking and I bleated again and this time I had a opening I could shoot through. I shot him at 7:29 .When i shot he ran up the hill turning and going back down the trail he had just came up. I felt good about the shot and I thought I heard some noise just out of sight but wasn't sure if he went down or what is was. I decided to give him about 30 mins and I headed over there. I walked up to where I thought he was but I wasn't certain and not seeing any blood i started around the trail he took wondering if maybe I had missed. I made it about 20 yards around this hill and found blood. I had trailed him about 60 yards from where he was standing when I shot and i could see him laying there. The forked side was lying in the leaves and I wasn't sure just what he was till I got my hands on him. This old guy is not my biggest or has the prettiest rack but I am proud of him, the pics really don't do him justice. He has real good mass and his g2 on the normal side was 11 1/2and the long time on the forked side was 14in im thinking he was at least 4 1/2. I have ran cams on this farm for years and never got a pic of anything like him. This is the first deer i have shot at with the 270 my wife and dad got me for christmas year before last and i am impressed with the damage it done. This also makes the 3rd deer I have killed on the 11th, my first deer 18 years ago was a button buck I killed on the 11th and the 10 point I killed last year, that is my second biggest deer was killed on the 11th. This is the biggest 5 point I have ever seen in person. Congratulations to everyone who has harvested this year and good luck to everyone who is still hunting.
