Has nothing to do with 21st century economics. I just actually read what the text says, and you guys are leaving out part of it. These guys aren't just finding a generous master like you're trying to say. It's a very specific and fairly evil situation.
Basically a guy gets sold into...
Deuteronomy
20:10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.
20:11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee...
I realize some of the language is soft enough to let you believe that, such as using the word serve or servants, but keep in mind that the same language is used in Deuteronomy 20, which is rules for enslaving conquered foreign people. I suppose this chapter is voluntary as well?
Keep in mind...
They did this because that was the only way they would ever see their wife and kids again. It was either that or leave their wife and kids in slavery while they go free. Seriously, could you do this?
Notice that when they did this, at that point the master bore the servants ear with an awl...
There's nothing in the Bible that says "slavery is bad, don't do it, mmkay?" In fact, Paul even returned a runaway slave. There's instructions on how to sell your own daughter. There's even a passage that says you can beat the living snot out of your slave and if he survives a day or two...
So is eating shrimp, eel, catfish, lying, oppressing the poor, remarrying a previous wife, cheating in finances, sacrificing a sheep that has some kind of defect, and probably about 42 other things. Nobody ever mentions anything else though.
There's really nothing that says to hang on to the ten commandments but ditch everything else. In fact there's seemingly even two different sets of ten commandments. Exodus 34 tells you what was written on the stone tablets. Where does it say to ditch this set but hang on to the other set?
1. Figure out how much cash you think you need for absolutely everything, then add another 10 grand to it, minimum. Don't go into a project being anywhere near being strapped for cash. When we got done I only had $5,000 in the bank and was sweating bullets.
2. Read up on basic construction...
I have an F-150 that isn't shifting right. If it is under torque like accelerating or driving down the highway at interstate speeds it's fine. However, let's say I am in a city, driving around 35-50, and come up on a car. I let off the acceleration, coast, then when the car pulls away I give...
The problem here is people sitting around looking for something to be offended over. The culturally acceptable term has even changed over the years. Negro, to colored, to black, to African American. When a new term comes out, the previous ones are null and void. I don't get it.
I think it was Megan Kelly who was interviewing a guy from Africa once, she was trying to be all PC and referred to him as an African-American. He got all ticked off, made it very clear that he is NOT an American, and if you were talking about his race, he is simply "black".
Yeah that's awesome. Mike Row had a nice rant too. My take on some of them:
2. "Fake it till you make it" isn't exactly always a great way to live your life by in all circumstances.
3. Movie theaters? Two words: home theater. Munch however loud you want.
4. First of all, if you tell...
Michael Mann had some great old school action movies. I hardly think his collection is the end game for the genre though. The strangest thing is that somebody would be a fan of his work while being a crying Oxford-wearing gun-hating gangsta-rapping melon-balling effeminate guy who sometimes...
I'm not real sure they insulated much even 60 years ago. My grandmother's house runs through propane like there's no tomorrow, like 5-6 500 gallon tanks a winter.

You guys seen this crap? It would be humorous, except I think the guy is serious.
Without frantically searching Google, can anybody here name even one single high profile politician who went to jail for some shady stuff? And you really think that's proof that no shady stuff happens? That's not how this country operates. Over half of them would be rotting in prison for...
