I think I would try it differently. I prefer to arrive well before daylight and get the decoys set just like you want. I also prefer to not hunt out of the boat. Now I’ve been doing this for almost 30 years so I have several spots I usually set up on depending on wind, birds, and my gut.
Still on population control on the river. Only a needed a couple more to go when I took this pic. It was the 5th different spot in 5 days. Never a shortage of spots to hunt on the river.
I love my river hunting so I always enjoy a freeze up. This one is no exception. Figure since I won’t be hunting tomorrow I will still get 3 or 4 good days next week.
I killed at the sloughs on Thursday and had to leave early but didn't go back Friday because of work. No complaints this time around. I kind of wish I would have gone back but oh well. Didn't see that many flying though but what did, came in for a look for the most part.
