Fencing would be best. A deer will eat as many as you plant.
May try some deterrents, like small bars of soap placed around the plants, or human hair. If I have some damage, and need to do something in a hurry, I hang my sweaty teeshirt up near the plants, and swap it out with a fresh one every couple of days..this works well.
