Think I'll give bear hunting a try this year
Looks like several to go after.
would make some nice rugs!
hat last pic appears to be a big un.
Couple young ones looked to be having a good time , the last one looks to be a good one , I’d shoot any of them , I have people hunt my lease every year just for Bears they are destructive
Been thinking about it myself. I have never dressed or ate one. Are they any good to eat.
Yes they r good to eat ,
Best we have found is to have them Hickory smoked/ Sugar cured like you would a ham, if you can find someone that can do that. Taste is like Corn Beef, texture is near the same, Dark red meat. My wife loves it I am kind of hit or miss on it. She could eat it everyday I think, I don't think I could live off it unless I had to but once and a while I can handle it just not everyday but I am a picky eater.
Ky will someday have a better season set up other than in winter, I would guess when the population gets way up there, and they allow more to be taken. Be good to hold it in spring near turkey season and again late in Oct or early Nov. A three day season would work I think in each time frame. Even over bait would work better than just crossing paths with one by accident. Would give you more time to look one over before pulling the trigger or releasing that arrow.
Duster, I heard they have been sighted in Muhlenburg and Todd Co. What say you?
Yes couple have. Not the first time another passed thru a couple years back. This last one showed up on trail camera just a few miles west of me south of Greenville, then next trail camera sighting was in southern Logan county near the community of Dot, It would most likely pass thru Todd on it's way to where it was seen in Logan but no pictures showed up out of Todd. Was then seen in the Clarksville Tennessee area a day later. Just a young male his mom kicked out and is searching for a new home. The one from a couple years back showed up eating out of a bird feeder in a guys back yard in Central City then went east into Butler county where this one went south. They have to be slick to dodge all the traffic with all the roads around here and not get ran over.
Can't you kill up to like 14 bears now or something like that? I have never hunted bear, but was damn near raised with them and I know they sure tear up a lot of stuff. I would like to try hunting them though, but I think I'd want someone else backing me up, or be up a tree. I can't imagine a big pissed off bear coming at me while I'm trying to get shots off.
A single person can't kill 14 bears in Ky, that might be the quota before the season closes. It may be 14 total this year.
Maybe I am just reading this wrong or something https://fw.ky.gov/hunt/pages/bear-hunting.aspx
Quota Hunt with Dogs Three (3) bears or two (2) female bears, whichever is reached first Eight (8) bears or three (3) female bears, whichever is reached first
Archery/Crossbow Five (5) bears or two (2) female bears, whichever is reached first Ten (10) bears or four (4) female bears, whichever is reached first
Modern Gun Five (5) bears or two (2) female bears, whichever is reached first. Fourteen (14) bears or four (4) female bears, whichever is reached first.
Muzzleloader Closed Five (5) bears or three (3) female bears, whichever is reached first
Depending on the zone you're in, it is a total of 14 bears for everyone...not an individual bag limit. The way the hunting guide shows it in the season date/zone chart, it looks like individual bag limits.
