Has anyone ever had any experience fishing squirrel tail jigs for bluegill? If so, how'd you fish them and what time of year is best.

  2. I never tried squirrel tail jigs for blue gill, but a few years ago we made some spinner baits out of squirrel tails and caught 5 or 6 muskies on them. I remember a friend at work brought me a fox squirrel tail from a squirrel that he saw get run over by a Mennonite buggy. I made a lure out of that tail and caught a musky on it.
I remember thinking at the time how that old fox squirrel had a hard time of it. Got run over by a Mennonite and then had his tail eaten by a musky.

I'm like you, that had to be the slowest squirrel ever and the unluckiest.

My dad (double t) will tell you that I'll eat about anything but Amish roadkill squirrel isn't one of them. I will say I ate several fox squirrels that year. I ate well and the muskie thought they did too till we crossed their eyes.
