I seem to remember reading somewhere at some point that there was a minimum distance that you could hunt from a dwelling (with a firearm). I have done some searching but have been unable to locate any reference to it now.

Is anyone aware of such a law or regulation?

I thought it was 300' from an occupied dwelling but I dont see it in the regs.

It’s on the books in other states. I had a friend who got busted in PA when I was a kid.

So shooting one from my upstairs bathroom used to be illegal?

Not really, believe that was in the books to keep someone from hunting with there back against the fence outside your bedroom window. When I have traveled out of state to hunt where they have this law it states without written permision of the person residing within the dwelling or something close to that.

Yup, seems like you weren't allowed to shoot from any "permanent" building.

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering the same thing. I want to put a duck pond in over the hill from my neighbors. Its probably hundred yards away.

While on a WMA, you cannot disharge a firearm within 100 yards of a residence or occupied building, regardless of whether its on the WMA or not. There's no restriction on private land, but use some common sense - wanton endangerment and negligent homicide are still criminal offenses.

That is what it is in most states.. some states it's further, also in some states if you get permission from the owner of the dwelling you can be closer.
