I jumped a group while mowing hay earlier this week, they were big enough to fly up to the tree with there mother, about the same size as the ones in your pictures maybe a tad bigger
Wish I would have saved a pic I had the other day, had one hen with poults almost as big as her and the other hen had some the size of quail
I flushed some this morning pulling cards that looked almost half grown. They were a lot bigger than the ones I have gotten on cam.
Seen a Hen with 9 half grown today in my Cow pasture.
Seen 11 couple days ago the size of those in the first pictures running with 3 hen's. No telling who belong to who being in a group like that. Buddy down the road about half mile away seen 9 little ones with 3 hen's about the same time, may or may not be the same group as he said they were in the weeds and he might have not got a good count. First ones I have seen all year.
There are 12 in this group, not all in the pic, but was a good hatch year here. Seen several groups!
Great hatch guys
I hope the Jake fest is strong next spring have several kids 7-11 coming in to hunt!
I read somewhere that the can fly when they get 2 weeks old. Anybody know for sure?
I don’t know about that, but son in law down the road ,was out on the lake fishing, watched some swim across the lake .The hen had flew across and was on the other side calling to them. They were small they caught him and helped em on across.
I'm pretty sure they begin roosting albeit not super high at 4 weeks. I've seen em (not sure age as I'm no biologist) but they were small, roost up then limbhop higher and higher. Was pretty cool to see.
More little ones.
