Finally on the board. We pushed it to the last evening of the youth weekend and finally got a bird that was willing to play the game. Extremely henned up birds sure test your patience! We worked a few different birds this weekend and had a couple of close calls. Called one all the way to the river bank and he just wouldn't pitch across. Turkeys being turkeys I guess. This bird came into the field at least 400 yards away. Landon and I started both calling to him at the same time and he started heading our way. After about 45 minutes of putting on a show, he finally had crossed the creek and was on the same hill as us. The last time he gobbled he was about 60 yards down the hill. I heard both boys click their safety's off and then I seen the fan. Sure was a beautiful sight seeing the sun shine through that tail fan as he made his way to the decoy. He got within 15 yards of the decoy and broke into a hard run. He was bumping into the decoy when Weston shot him at 25 yards. 24lb, 10-3/4 beard, 1" spurs.
