I was able to harvest my first elk on Saturday Morning after an day break spot and stalk hunt that ended a lot quicker than I had anticipated. I was not using a guide and even though my brother and I had been scouting on and off since July the last few weeks since deer rifle season I had seen very little fresh elk sign. Willing to work all week to get it done I was preparing my self for multiple days of hunting in order to fill a tag I was blessed to be drawn to get. When we pulled up to our first spot I spotted the elk on a point about six hundred yards away. we were able to get in position and put a stalk to within 150 yards of the elk. 4 cows and 1 spike bull in the bunch, I made sure I shot a cow. She didn't go more than forty yards from where she was at when I shot her. Falling on a hillside I was able to easily gut her and with the help of a couple of deer hunters that came by we loaded her in the back of my truck with little trouble. Now that the hunt is over all I can say is that I was blessed to not only have the opportunity but also be able to harvest one of these animals. I wish everyone else out still hunting or those hunting next week luck in harvesting an animal.
