Anyone else been seeing Lightning bugs while out turkey hunting? My buddy hunted my place in Grayson County back around the 25th or 26th of April. He told me that he had seen lightning bugs on the ground and flying in the trees. I told him it was probably his meds and he was seeing stars from being light headed. Then I went down to my place really early yesterday and I will be danged if there weren't lightning bugs all over the woods well before light. Anyone else been seeing them? I never really paid much attention but don't recall ever having seen them before early summer.

Usually we see hundreds in the woods around the house but have not seen that first one this year.

Cold temps in March and April should have them a bit behind schedule but if your in an area that didnt get as cold that might explain your sightings. My son said he saw some last night out the front door, I looked and didnt see any and told him it was a bit early but now maybe not. Will pay a bit more atention tonight. Not much more fun than watching young ones chaising lightnign bugs and listening to there screams of joy.

We saw quite a few while sitting by the campfire at Nolin the 2nd weekend of turkey season. I commented to my friend sitting next to me that it seemed awfully early considering the cool spring we were having up to that time.

Our A/C unit had been down and I had placed a window unit in our sons room and didnt bother sealing the cracks. Yesterday morning the wife comes to me and says there are flying ants all over our sons room. Well his room wasnt full of flying ants it was full of baby lightning bugs. When I explaind they were not ants but baby lightning bugs both of there attitudes went from disgust to glee. Of course they will not see maturity but I dont want to bust the bubble of an 8 year old yet. Side note the window unit came out last night and the screen reinstalled. He chased those thins for a good hour last night.
