Based on lunar activity, moon phase, planet alignment, years of experience, and a superior knowledge of the species, I am making the first official rut forecast for 2013. 2013 should see some interesting rut activity in KY. Younger bucks will start doing some chasing in mid-October, or maybe earlier. As the month progresses, scrapes and rubs should become more numerous. Chasing could get pretty intense by the end of October if the weather cooperates with cool temperatures. The bulk of breeding will happen between November1 and November 21. The eastern mountainous part of the state might see breeeding a few days later. Another round of chasing and breeding will occur in early to mid-December, albeit not as intensively as in November. So, schedule your days off of work for any time between October 27 and November 25, but be sure to include opening weekend of gun season. Corn prices should decline a little after August. Now, no need to buy that magazine or watch another stupid hunting show.
