Curious if anyone has hunted Iowa for whitetails?

I have 3 points banked and am undecided which route to go.

    Outfitter? If so which one..

Lease land? If so I want a long term availability..

Swap a hunt with someone from there?

Wasn't sure if any of you all have some friends that you could put me in contact with, or some references of outfitters or some land that is available for leasing.

    Thanks in Advance..

Been there once, going back in a couple years. I can tell you which outfitter not to use and a couple that I’ve been researching in advance and zoned.

Friend of mine from Iowa got this great buck there in 2018 late muzzleloader season. He has taken several nice bucks there on his farm.

I’ve got 4 points right now. My wife has family in zone 4 (adair county).
I figured I’ll prob go to there place and give it a shot. Quite a bit of public around there also.

Went in 2016 with a buddy. Spent a grand total of 3 hours in the tree and killed a main frame 8 with 4 kickers. Buddy killed a 147 inch 10 the next evening. We were in zone 4 and had access to lots of private land through family connection. I had flown out there 2x to scout and the second trip we hung sticks and tree stand brackets so all we had to do was pop stands in when we got there.

We were planning on spending 2 weeks if need be. Last week in Oct was when we arrived and were done by Halloween . They were just starting to chase. Only saw one other hunter. Where we were had lots of crops with very little woodlots. Crops were coming out which helped a lot. Otherwise it’s a sea of corn. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

It’s definitely challenging finding the right opportunity

I’d rather earn the chance at an older buck and put my time in.

I’d rather have 30 acres in the right spot than 300 acres in the wrong spot.

I lived in Iowa for a few years, I would recommend an outfitter, and not go the public land route. I hunted a lot of public land and it all seemed to get hit really hard and never heard of many big deer coming off of public. Or try knocking on doors. I never really had much luck with that aspect, most people seemed to know what land was worth and already had it leased.
