I was looking at a picture of a 8 pt buck with a 20 inch inside spread and the mass of the antlers was not all that much. It did have pretty good tine length on all 8 points but i just don't seeing it scoreing 154 ? What does some of you guys who are fmailier with scoreing deer think. Could a 8 pt like i described score 154 ?

Yes it could. A friend of mine killed one last weekend that grossed 146 and was not as wide as the one you described. Takes a real good one though.

Yep, it's possible. I killed one a few years back that's 153 and change. Almost 22" inside spread, 25" beams. Mass and tine length are average, not great.

I've seen a bunch of 8's in the past few years that are high 140's. We took one in the other day thats 164". Stud of an 8

I actually killed one that will score 168 gross. It had a couple 1 inch stickers. Tines where around 10 inches a piece 23 inch beams 19 inch spread. The mass was exceptional though one base was 8.5 the other was almost 9 and it stayed thick throughout the rack. It is the biggest bases I personally ever seen on a deer. I always heard of bases bigger than a coke can but have never seen one that thick so we measured a coke can and both of his bases are bigger. My cousin also killed one that would score in the mid 150s exceptional tines on his deer.

I mounted an 8 a couple of years ago that had a 15 inch inside spread that measured 154 4/8. It had 14 inch G2s, long brow tines and tons of mass. I mounted its son the next year that looked identical but not as heavy. Same hunter, same farm.

You have given this deer 36" of mass. 6 total mass measurements for an 8pt, I think. That is pretty high average of 6" to carry all the way out. I know some people make the mistake of adding the C4s which I don't think exist on an 8PT. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

A deer gets 4 mass measurements per side. My big 8 scores 140, but he has 18+" of mass per side. He is known as the king of mass where I hunt because there hasn't been a buck killed that will come close to his mass.

A deer gets 4 mass measurements per side regardless of how many points he has. If he is an 8 pointer, then the last mass measurement is the center point between the G3 (his last tine) and the end of his main beam.

Ok my next question is. Does it matter what scoring system you use. At our camp we use SCI. I have always believed that the 8pts also got the C4 until I talked to an offical scorer with SCI and he informed me that they didn't with their scoring system. Now I'm confused.

SCI you also have a C4 regardless of number of points.
