If you can get your hands on October's issue of Deer and Deer Hunting, it has the best day's to hunt the rut. The whole issue is very informative. Similar to F&S, it breaks down the North and South then highlights the seek, chase and breeding stages. The guys who wrote the article did a 15 year study and have noticed the deer tend to repeat rut dates every 4 years. There are 4 different dates of the rut based on October and November's full moon. Last year was the worst of the four and this year is the 2nd best meaning a lot more activity from the stand. Weather and pressure play a big role as well as buck-to-doe ratios but it definitely makes our chances better. Kentucky is considered in the North and it looks like the best 9 days to hunt start November 10-November 19. For bowhunters like myself, the best days will be more like November 5 on into gun season. Hope for some cold weather and good luck!

I'm no expert but I believe they are about 10 days too late on it being "the best". I would have to say the first 9 days of November would be the best for KY.....Thats my two cents.

maybe for your part of KY. where we hunt, in the southwest part of the state, the chasing is usually heaviest during the 2nd week of rifle season.

I've hunted the same farm since 1994 and every year thats usually how it goes for us, Its probably different area to area because of buck doe ratio. But like I said, I'm no expert.

Seems to be a little earlier than that in SE Kentucky but I'm just going on my personal sightings.
All I can tell you is I'll be in the stand every chance I get from now until Thanksgiving.

The moon will be full during the modern rifle season. If the weather is too warm the Deer will move more at night.

The first ten days of Nov are the best time to be out. I hear people every year waiting for the rut during gun season. They don't realize that the Chase and seek.phase is over by then and the bucks are locked down.

I read an article that said the most trophy bucks entered in the books for a single day of the year was November 11th. Over half of all the entries were in November. The best day in October was the 31st so that tells you the first two weeks are just a good time to be in the stand.

I just looked at accuweather.com and its showing mid 60's from 31st-4th then dropping off to low 50's after that. We r planning on hunting the week of the above dates, but do yall think we should wait to be there when that front moves in?

I tend to agree with the 11th being the last really good hot day for action...
