If you can get your hands on October's issue of Deer and Deer Hunting, it has the best day's to hunt the rut. The whole issue is very informative. Similar to F&S, it breaks down the North and South then highlights the seek, chase and breeding stages. The guys who wrote the article did a 15 year study and have noticed the deer tend to repeat rut dates every 4 years. There are 4 different dates of the rut based on October and November's full moon. Last year was the worst of the four and this year is the 2nd best meaning a lot more activity from the stand. Weather and pressure play a big role as well as buck-to-doe ratios but it definitely makes our chances better. Kentucky is considered in the North and it looks like the best 9 days to hunt start November 10-November 19. For bowhunters like myself, the best days will be more like November 5 on into gun season. Hope for some cold weather and good luck!
