Stick with the Remington. Great rifle and the 30-06 will do everything you need. You may want to consider upgrading the optics, bases and rings on the current rifle (if you haven't already). I have learned the hard way not to go cheap on the scope. Check out the Leupold, Kahles, Zeiss very high quality optics.

For me, I have never had much luck with Ruger rifles. I couldn't get them to group. I was not happy with 2-21/2 inches at 100 yards, even thoough that is sufficent for deer.

Good luck,

Shot a ruger m77 for years topped with Leupold scope. No problem grouping once I found the shells it liked, it was particular about what I fed through it.

I have a 25-06 M77 with a 26" bull barrel and a trigger job. I also have a 700 (30-06), a 70 Supergrade (.338) and a regular 70 (300WSM). I like them all, but that Ruger is by far the most accurate. I really like the 25-06 caliber. It's hugely underrated and overlooked as a deer gun, especially for kids and women. For them, it would be my first choice. It's tough to beat the versatility of the 30-06, though. Frankly, I like all the calibers of the bolt actions I have.

You have to watch the older MK2 w/the synthetic stock...It will kick your a$$...My .338 holds a 1" group at 200yds W/Federal premium ammo. Fit and finish are great too.

Met a guy at the range that was so fond of his Stainless/Synthetic 300 Mag Ruger bolt-action, he sold his other rifles, and used the cash for some fly-in hunting trips. He was getting tight groups, it was reliable and tough, built to last. I'd consider one myself if I was looking to buy another rifle. We let each other pop off a few rounds thru each other's rifles, man talk about kick, a 338 is even more...wow. I'd be wanting a muzzle brake!
