hey all i was just wonderin if anyone else has had bad luck with remington ammo cuz last year my daughter shot 4 different deer with rem. ammo and not one bullet went through 1 dressed buck 185 lbs. at 125 yds. and 3 does at less than 40 yds. now the buck i can understand but the does at less than 40 yds. from a .270 it just doesn't sound right and we lost 2 of the 3 does til the next day and the one we found immediately ran about 100yds. and while it was runnin another kid shot at it but had to have missed cuz the bullet hole was on the wrong side for him to have hit it i checked it out good so he claimed the deer and i told my daughter to forget about it cuz during the youth hunt which was the weekend before she killed a 9-point buck it was the one that dressed 185 and it was probably his first and i didnt want to bust his bubble cuz surely when his dad skinned it he saw that the bullet hole was on the wrong side he had to know but thats huntin any way just checkin to see if anyone else has had any problems with remington ammo

Must be bullet selection. Some of the lighter grain loads are varmint bullets and won't give much penetration. Remington Core Lokt's have been around a long time with few detractors. On the other hand a varmint load at 40 yards in the chest should give dramatic kills.

Most lighter grain bullets shot thru the shoalders, will not exit.
Want it to exit, shoot thru the rib cage. Never heard of anything wrong with Remington ammo. Had the recovered bullets mushroomed? If so, nothing wrong.[:)] |

I've never hade any problems with Remington Core Lock and that is all I shoot. I've used a 25.06 and 30.06 and have had success at 40 yards on up to 110 yards.
Perhaps you need to chose a different weight bullet. You may be using too light of a bullet. Who knows??? Matt |

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but if you shoot animal and the bullet doesn't exit, isn't all the energy expended in the animal? Isn't the reason ballistic tip ammo was intended for? Isn't that why bullets mushroom to put as much shock as you can? Seems to me pass throughs are not typically what you are wanting. Arrows yes, bullets no...... I've had no issues with Remington ammo, if you put it where its intended.

RDL I think you're right. If the bullet penetrates just to the hide on the far side all the energy was transferred to the animal. We could make this complicated [varmint bulet penetrates 2" =complete transfer of energy]but most any major brand ammo in DEER weight per caliber will do a good job.

Since I talked with you on the phone I've been to our local Walmart. Remington was about all they carried. I remember some post this last spring (different site) where a few guys thought the turkey loads from Walmart weren't as good as ones they had bought elsewhere. Where did those Remington shells come from?
