Make sure you got the right scope mounts. just cause they fit don't mean their the right ones.

The 710's have lots of problems. From reports even after he gets the scope mounted right it will break something. Some dealers across the country won't sell them due to custumer complaints and returns. Too late now but he should have bought a Savage. Cheap but always shoot well.

I've got a 710 in 270 cal that I'm real happy with. Seems to be a real solid gun, I also have a friend with one in 30-06 that he is happy with.

My bolt was tight when I first got it, however, after cleaning it and putting a good coat of oil on it, it works fine now.

It seems that the 710's are either on or off and no in between. I have a '06 and shoots as well as any rifle I have ever shot/owned (I have owned several). As a matter of fact, last week I shot 40 rounds at 100 yds with Rem's Express CL 150's. My best was a .45 and my worst was a 1.75. My bolt has never stuck or jammed. My ONLY issue with that model is the clip design. I am rubbing off some of the synthetic stock at the receiver end due to a very tight (in my opinion) design. I do agree the scope is cheap. It requires more light than most to be clear. I have considered getting a Simmons with the lighted reticle i.e. something with better clarity/design. But apart from that, an excellent buy for me and a rifle I would recommend for those wanting to explore a 06 or 270.

Good luck next week.
